Egypt is a country with a bewitching blend of modern day living and ancient history. It goes without saying that a visit here serves up some of the most amazing architectural sights and fascinating heritage encounters in the world. Egypt boasts world-famous monuments and remnants of some of the human race’s most important civilizations, so it’s no surprise that a visit here is top of many holidaymakers’ wish lists.

Egypt holidays are incredibly varied. You can either opt for a full-on history and culture package, perhaps staying in the city of Cairo and travelling to some of the greatest wonders of the world which are virtually on the doorstep. The locals love to promote the amazing architectural feats of their ancestors, and a trip to Cairo is not one that will be forgotten quickly, that’s for sure.

Alternatively you can travel to Egypt’s Red Sea coast and lounge in some of the best waterfront resorts in the world, with weather, seaside and hotels rivaling the likes of the Caribbean.

One area that Egypt holidays have become very well known for is scuba diving. Egypt’s scuba diving hotspot is Sharm el Sheikh which sits on the coastline of the Red Sea. This is a very calm stretch of water which offers excellent visibility and a fully packed marine line-up including turtles, dolphins and sharks which swim along the beautiful coral reef. Enjoy rainbow-colored vegetation, sunken wrecks and tropical sea life for a deep-sea diving trip you’ll never forget.

If you want to take this latter style of holiday yet still enjoy day trips on dry land, perhaps to see sites such as the Pyramids, then your best bet is to take an internal flight or join an organized excursion. Egypt has some very good transport networks and if you book with Thomas Cook they will be able to arrange trips for you at the time of booking your holiday.

Koh Phi Phi is the island in Thailand where the movie The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed. Prior to the filming of the movie it was virtually unknown. It’s a tiny little island (you can walk everywhere) and nice for a day trip for the fantastic scenery and nearby ocean sights. There are some hotels on the island, but I’m not sure how long you could stay on an island this size without getting a bit of island madness. Much better to stay on nearby Phuket and make the day trip to Phi Phi unless you really want seclusion and quiet.
