Pinnacle of Luxury Air Travel

These Corvairs flying for United Airlines were considered the pinnacle of luxury air travel in early 1950′s, however that was all soon to change with the introduction of the commercial jet airliner in 1952.  Those early flights were something special as air travel was reserved for the rich and powerful.

As the commercial jet liner caught on though every airline jumped onboard to keep up with the times.  United was actually one of the last, beginning with Douglas DC-8′s in 1959.  Jet travel was faster, quieter and less bumpy than previous prop driven planes and quickly became the de facto standard for air travel.
