Why Travel Pizza?
To be honest I purchased the domain on a whim some time ago, but had been unable to really dedicate the time to develop an idea for the site and what I wanted to do with it. I’m still pretty time strapped, but I’ve figured out what I want to do with the site now and far into the future.
Initially I focused only on the travel part of the domain, and I now realize that was plain silly. I love travel sure, but I also love pizza (hence the idea to register the domain).
Unfortunately my traveling has been somewhat curtailed due to a wife working full time and going to school at night, combined with a sweet little 2 ½ year old girl. Fortunately, we moved to Thailand some 18 months ago, so my travel lust is somewhat slaked by my current location.
I know, you’re wondering how the pizza part falls into place as I ramble on and on…
Travel Pizza will become 2 things:
First: A site dedicated to everything pizza. By this I mean pizza news, pizza recipes, pizza history and lore, pizza pictures, pizza reviews, etc.
Second: A site devoted to pizza and the people making it around the world. This will actually be the more difficult part of the equation, especially since I am currently unable to travel much. I can (and will) provide reviews and write-ups for all the pizza joints I can find in Bangkok and later throughout Thailand. That part is easy. Once I have the freedom to travel it should be pretty painless to add reviews for places throughout SE Asia and later to places throughout all of Asia. Eventually I would like to cover the globe, finding pizza wherever it exists.
In the meantime, I am hoping to get the support of readers and pizza eaters all over the globe. I will gratefully accept reviews of pizza parlors and restaurants from around the world in an effort to compile a global pizza database! I will reach out to restaurateurs and pizzaiolos in hopes that they will be willing to share their pizza and their stories with us. Most importantly, I will share all of here with my fellow pizza aficionados.
I know it’s a huge undertaking, but that’s ok. As you might guess based on my choice to sell all my stuff and move half way around the world, I kinda like big challenges.
That’s all for now, but I hope to see you around more often and get to know you (and your topping preferences) better.
Buon Appetito!
